I do not have kids. (You are not the only one who is relieved.) I find kids to be fun. But then they start leaking and crying. After that the magic fades away for me. However, I have been known to “have fun” with kids from time to time. I had a friend who’s son was being toilet trained at the time. I was trying to get the kid to say the phrase, “Drop the chulupa.” every time he had to go #2. It did not work. Which is probably good for me. Because his mom was quite prepared to kick my ass if he did. That’s what she told me. (I will not bring up the “Magazine Incident”) Why have kids if you can’t have fun with them? But as stated in another post of mine my Sense of Humor has always been treated with a bit of suspicion. Why do I hang around such people? Simple. Penance. Lots of penance. But I am not going to let that stop me. And here is my latest thought for having “fun with kids”. My friends recently had a baby girl who is now about three months old. And this would be her first Halloween coming up. I have an idea for a unique costume. It’s so simple too. Take one three month old baby. Put a “Baby on Board” t-shirt on her. And four suction cups. One for each limb. Then go trick or treating. Go up to house and stick her on the window of the front storm door. In this case stick her on pretty good. She is called “Fidget Midget” for a reason. Ring the doorbell and yell “Trick or Treat!” And wait for the people who answer the door reaction. Videotape it and it will be an instant YouTube hit. Department of Social Services may have a different opinion but who cares. They can’t take a joke. I can.

If you think this is bad then do not read this posting. It is a comparison of being a Buffalo Bills fan to religion. Once again let me say it is not for the sensitive.

And the main site the Screenplay section should now be working. There will be new postings soon. It is all very much a work in progress. If anyone knows how to fix the “WTF” moments in Front Page please e-mail me.

DISCLAIMER: Once again let me say if you do not have a sense of humor then DO NOT READ the following.

Please open this link for the music for this posting.

Let me state once again I am single. My dating philosophy is based on that of an army soldier. “Do not share a foxhole with anyone crazier than yourself.” I know I am not exactly “right in the head.” I am aware of it. Believe me I am. The problem is I attract the “Crazies”. I am beginning to think there is something in my deodorant that releases the pheromones that attracts them to me. And I have no problem finding them. Especially the female ones. Women are crazy backed up with hormones. (To any female reader just save the “men are dumb pigs” for your own blog.) The following is a report of my past Saturday nights adventure in a game I call, “What the Fuck is going on here?” I was at a bar with my friend having dinner. There was a very nice looking blonde next to me. (NOTE: She was with her boyfriend. So I had no delusion this was going anywhere. But it went somewhere.) I had the Irish lamb stew for dinner. She asked me what I was eating. And I do not know why the following conversation came up. She asked me more like told me who I should be voting for in the upcoming local election. I guess since she is good looking she has never had a problem getting people (men) to just go along with her. I can talk to almost anyone about anything. I do not need to agree with you necessarily. However, if your rebuttal to my position is, “Because.” Well “Houston we are going to have problem”. “Because” is the reply for mentally lazy people. She had a problem since I did not support her position (Democratic) then I am the opposite (Republican). I am neither. I guess if I had to go with an ideology then I am a conservative libertarian. I know you should never argue politics or religion. Although, I would like to have seen her reaction when I told her I was agnostic atheist. (Means that I am not sure what I do not believe in). Why can’t I have a nice conversation with a hot girl for once? Why does nature make the hot ones act so damn crazy? Why does the cosmos balance itself out like this? Why can’t I keep my mouth shut? It is like the time the hot girl at a bar was discussing music with me. She was saying that there was a difference between N’Sync and the Backstreet Boys. I was faking interest. She did have nice assets to her. Love the assets. But she wouldn’t shut up about her shitty music tastes. I asked her, “With music tastes like this if she was old enough to drink in a bar.” It did not end pretty. But she was crazy. Cute but crazy. I just hate when pretty hot girls just think I am going to go along with them “Because”. What am I thinking? But they have the parts I do not. And can do the things I cannot. (Kept falling off the couch) It just does not seem fair to wrap up the crazies in a pretty looking package. Isn’t this just false advertising? Where is the Attorney General? Somebody has to do something about this. And can anyone recommend a new deodorant for me?

I did find a chart about women that I think may sum things up or start another argument. Especially in a bar setting.

And for those of you who prefer an instructional video

I know that the purpose of blog is to be current. To tell you the truth I am having a bit of “writer’s block” this week. I really do not have an “idea” at the moment that I want to write about. There just has not been anything the last few days that “lights the fire” for me. It has just been a tough week of a lot of unforeseen problems that I have had to make an attempt to deal with. I am trying to deal with them as best as I can. But I find that too many people withhold information from me. Too many unreturned e-mails and phone calls. I am doing the best I can with “bad information”. I CANNOT READ MINDS. I can only go by what people tell me. I am finding too many people rather be “roadblocks” a.k.a. “stumps”. But I guess it is time these “stumps” need to be removed once and forever. It is just time to remove the many “stumps” from my life. Deadwood is deadwood. And there is no way to bring it the back to life. “Stumps” are just draining and serve no real purpose. I need to stop wasting time on the things and people that are a waste of time.

I do enjoy watching movies. I always have. I just wanted to point out of few different ones that reflect a theme throughout the ages. That is the sense of duty. The characters involved who take on of a “mission” even in the face of great difficulty. The “costs” involved with it.

Casablanca, the 1942 classic where a man named Rick (played by Humphrey Bogart) must decide between love and duty to help a woman from his past (Ingrid Bergman). She comes back into his life with her new husband who is Resistance leader fleeing from the pursuit of Nazi operatives.

Here are clips of two scenes from the movie.

“Of all the gin joints in the world”

And the final scene that sums it all up.

“We will always Paris”

Many of the all time great movies have classic characters that have their personal “code of living” and their difficulties living within them. The 1995 action crime drama Heat by director Michael Mann fits into this idea. The movie is about the determined cop (Al Pacino) who must go up against a career thief (Robert Deniro). In the midst of all this they have a mutual respect for each other. This movie sets up the characters and their dilemmas. Then the action takes place. It is a straight forward plot that does not pull tricks in order to tell the story. I want to focus on a scene in the movie. Let me explain some things first. In terms of script ideas there is something called the midpoint. It usually takes part in the middle of the movie (thus the term) but not always. It is a brief scene about 11/2 to 5 minutes long roughly where the main characters have an introspective discussion. They are very important in action style movies. It is a chance for the audience to “catch their breath”. When the scene ends the action will start to pick up very quickly to reach the film’s final conclusion. This movie has one of the great midpoints in film with two very good actors in what is known as the “Coffee House” scene. The set up and pay off of this scene is a classic. And it sums up each character very nicely. Also for action fans is this film has an intense shoot out scene. The film also has another thing that adds depth to story. There are a few sub plots about the women of these men who are caught up in this world.

I am a big fan of action movies. I especially like the ones that have come out what is known as “Hong Kong” cinema or as one friend of mine calls them the “Chinese Foot Operas.” You probably just call them “Kung Fu” movies. A fond memory of my childhood was watching them on what was “Kung Fu Theater” on TV. I know the action is “over-the-top” and borderline preposterous with badly dubbed dialogue. But who cares? They are just a lot of fun. There is a film company called Dragon Dynasty that is re-issuing many classics. I found a couple by action director John Woo. Best know in this country for Face/Off
and Mission Impossible 2. He has set a style for action throughout his films. I could not resist when I found DVD’s for two of his films.

The first one is the first John Woo action movie The Last Hurrah for Chivalry this features themes that are found throughout his movies. The main one being men who find themselves on opposite sides trying to find some loyalty. This clip here shows a sword fight scene. What I like about the “Hong Kong” cinema is that it creates action by using motion. There are too many movies try to create a sense of action by rapid film editing. The other title was Hard Boiled. This is not a martial arts movie. It is a cop drama. It follows the struggles of two cops who unknowingly find themselves on opposite sides of the same goals. The themes are still in this film too. I would like to say that the actor Chow Yun-Fat is “Hong Kong” cinemas equivalent of Clint Eastwood. He has a commanded presence on the screen. He does have to talk much to convey so much. The action in this movie has been described as being a “ballet with bullets.” And there are a lot of bullets. Here is a clip from the opening. (NOTE: This does not have dubbed dialogue but just watch how the action itself is staged). And here is another series of action scenes from the movie. John Woo movies have influenced many American movies such as Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2 and Robert Rodriguez’s “El Mariachi” trilogy and the movie “Sin City”.

I cannot wait for The Killer to be re-issued on DVD.
