Atonement Days

I have been listening to Pink Floyd’s album Animals, Black Sabbath’s Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Lou Reed’s The Raven a lot the last few days.

For today’s date I may have listened to Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Track or Johnny Cash’s American Recordings III: Solitary Man

And yet for this posting I am going with…

MUSIC: Whitesnake

I hate nostalgia. But I also feel it every now and then. I was channel surfing earlier today and I came across this song. It was a big hit when I was a teenager. It had a hit video too. I was watching it today and I now find it a bit disturbing in a way. The video is really borderline porn. The action of the video has nothing what so ever to do with what is being said in the lyrics. In other words the plot line does not make sense at all. In the porn movies, the loser pizza delivery guy just has to show up and the woman just falls on her knees and “worships” him. The lyrics to song are telling the tale of man who has “to walk alone”. So why is there a hot woman slithering all over the car? It does not make sense at all. And that is the basis of a porn flick. The plot does not matter. But I think it should. The video needs to be more honest and reflect the lyrics. It should have the lone guy in a really crappy car. The guy should be alluded to as going through the motions of “self motivation” in various roadside rest stops. The girl in the Whitesnake video is alluding to something to which I have no idea of. Probably to the fact that a “pole” would have been just too obvious. So I think the remake should have the same type of allusions. Such as. Chickens performing the Heimlich maneuvers on each other. A girl who is wearing a shirt that says “Rosie” surrounded by five other girls bouncing up and down on pogo sticks. Bald bishops using car polish buffers on each other’s heads. A person trying to burp a worm. Another person bopping the bologna. A one handed rodeo contest. You get the point.

So let me move on. (You’re welcome.)

Today is one of several “Atonement Days” of the year. Any so called “Holiday” that involves the expectation a card and more importantly a “gift” is really about “Atonement”. The message really is “Please do not be mad because whatever I have done lately then let me say, I am sorry”. Holidays in this country have taken on more meaning than they are capable of living up to. And today is no different. High expectations. Low returns. Just like your 401k plan. I just want to say I am not in a relationship at the moment. Why? Read this previous posting. And my approach is similar to this. I do not have to play the game “Clue” to realize that someone will end up in “bad way” in the end. Look at it this way for those of you in a relationship. The flowers you buy will be dead in no time. The chocolates will lead to the dangerous question of “Do I look fat?” The mix tape is about music she has no idea about. I have watched enough people in my life and their relationships. I have learned one thing. Eventually, you are going to “Fuck Up”. So here is my suggestion for a useful gift that should help the relationship. Forget the expensive items. Be practical. In the end, it is a lot cheaper.

Holidays are more illusion than anything else. The symbol for today’s “Holiday” is represented by a midget in a toga who prances about and shoots people with arrows. If he existed in real life I would try to find out how far I could send him with a 5 wood driver. It is just a messy day.
