Take a Chance by Adjusting the Dial

NOTE: I was on a “creative burst” recently. However, I forgot to keep an eye out for what is going on out there in “left field”. And sure enough I got hit out there. I do not want to go into the details because it is going to be a while before they all come out. And I will just have to make the adjustments “on the fly”. And to top it off, it is the end of August and I forgot it was allergy season for me. It seems like there is not enough Visine to be constantly “douching out” my eyeballs. So it is a bit hard to keep the focus on reading or typing on a computer screen for long amounts of time.

So I need to keep my mind occupied especially when I am at work. I have been listening to podcasts. However, I needed to change it up. I have to break for the ones that have a tendency to be a bit “heavy-handed” when it comes to political matters. The all around rhetoric right now seems to be on par with “But this one goes to 11.”

I think everyone should adjust their playlists anyways. I hate people who only seem to have one outlet for their listening habit. I also hate people who are too lazy to make effort to try expand out their listening. The Internet gives you more access than ever before and there is no excuse not to use it.

As I said, I needed to change-up the podcast listening. I needed more in the way of music. I was trying to find new channels one day for my Roku device and they had music stations that could be added. And here is one that I found.

The Best Radio You Have Never Heard. Each episode has a theme to it. The music goes along with it. Some bands you may have heard and other you may have never heard before. Live tracks. Alternative versions of a song. Just click on episode and read the playlist. This is why radio format (whether over-the air or satellite) is a dying medium. If you don’t mix it up and challenge your audience from time to time then they will pass you by. A passive audience is not going to support. However, show some passion about your program and they will reward you back. Plus, why the podcast medium is growing is because they are taking chances. And do not overly fear “offending” their sponsors.

And the other one I have been a fan of for a while is more of “streaming” site for me when it comes to music part of their programming. WFMU is a radio station out of New Jersey.  They are listener support free form station. This means each DJ is responsible for the content of their show.  And their playlist is “all over the map”. It does not all work for me and that is fine. But it makes things more exciting when there is a possibility for an “audio adventure”. I like Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones but I do not need them every hour on the hour. And the other local station for rock now seems to be stuck in the most part in the early to mid 90’s. Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit (great song) is now being played on the stations with the same regularity as Stairway to Heaven.

There is so much out there to listen to. Give it a chance. Besides the more music in your head will make the “afterlife” that much better.

Who wants “eternity” with only one tune “stuck in your head”?
